Barrel of Reflection
A Poem: Based on a dream of finally letting go & standing my ground against an abusive relationship from my past.
Moving into this house stirred memories of you,
Glimpses of our past intertwined with the present anew.
The space now adorned with my life’s new bloom,
Everything rebuilt since we met our doom.
A sudden knock, my heart skipped a beat,
Opening the door, fearing what fate might meet.
There you stood, shotgun in hand,
Accusing me, searching for what you demand.
“Where is my gun?” you demanded, eyes cold and hard,
As if I had your weapon, as if I held that card.
“I don’t have it, please don’t shoot,” I pleaded in fear,
My child stirring, sensing danger near.
My hands trembled, heart raced fast,
Protecting my child, I stood steadfast.
“I don’t know where it is,” I managed to say,
As you followed me down the hall,
footsteps heavy in dismay.
